Groundwater Recharge for Water Security

چکیده
The Arizona Water Banking Authority (AWBA) was established in 1996 to make full use of Arizona’s Colorado River entitlement. It aims address groundwater depletion central and protect water users against future shortages due interannual variability availability. Each year, the AWBA pays costs deliver any state’s unused entitlement into southern store that underground. stores on behalf Central Project municipal subcontractors, other mainstream rights holders, tribal entities. Through its interstate banking agreements, can also states Nevada California. stored by is accounted for using statutorily created system long-term storage credits (LTSCs), which allow pumping within same hydrologic basin. During shortage conditions Lower Basin River, will distribute LTSCs, enabling recipients pump otherwise would not be permitted. In this way, serves as a unique insurance mechanism Basin. To date, AWBA’s focus has been storage, yet coming years, activities shift recovery, it need confront additional challenges associated with matching supplies demands limitations available recharge.

متن کاملGroundwater modeling for estimation of the recharge rate and identification of appropriate recharge sites in Damghan Plain, Iran
Water is the main option of any development, so having an accurate management of groundwater is necessary. This study has been done in Damghan sedimentary plain in Iran, which is located in northwest of Semnan Province. The main objective of this research was to estimate the rate and right site of recharge in Damghan plain to prevent the aquifer from decreasing the water table. For this purpose...
متن کاملArtificial recharge of groundwater: hydrogeology and engineering
Artificial recharge of groundwater is achieved by putting surface water in basins. furrows, ditches, or other facilities where it infiltrates into the soil and moves downward to recharge aquifers. Artificial recharge is increasingly used for shortor long-term underground storage. where it has several advantages over surface storage, and in water reuse. Artificial recharge requires permeable sur...
متن کاملPathogen survival in groundwater during artificial recharge
Wastewater can be regarded as a valuable resource that can be re used in various ways, creating more sustainable societies which can benefit both human communities and the environment. An issue when using reclaimed water is the potential presence of health hazards such as microbial pathogens. The presence of pathogens can often impact on the type of water reclamation project selected. Artifici...
متن کاملGlobal-scale modeling of groundwater recharge
Long-term average groundwater recharge, which is equivalent to renewable groundwater resources, is the major limiting factor for the sustainable use of groundwater. Compared to surface water resources, groundwater resources are more protected from pollution, and their use is less restricted by seasonal and inter-annual flow variations. To support water management in a globalized world, it is ne...
